We're looking for a Data Engineer who is driven to solve hard problems— the harder, the better. As a Data Engineer, you can define how we instrument our data infrastructure to influence the entire industry. Your contributions to Blend’s data architecture and infrastructure will shape the company’s ability to innovate in the consumer finance space.
Our ideal Data Engineer has hands-on experience building and architecting data pipelines and distributed systems. Using this expertise, you will work both independently and collaboratively with Engineers, Product Managers, and Analysts to appropriately prioritize, execute, and innovate on the organization’s data needs.
How you’ll contribute:
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines from the ground up that instrument new functionality such as automatic metrics generation, pipeline auditing, and data repopulation
Help scale, maintain, and standardize our data warehouse, with an eye on security and privacy.
Manage AWS resources and ensure that the warehouse is performant and optimized
Partner with business domain experts, data analysts and engineering teams to build and maintain foundational data sets that are trusted, easily understood, documented and used every day
Champion and standardize the overall strategy for data ingestion and usage across different systems and use cases for all types of data users
Recognize and adopt best practices in table creation and data integrity through implementation of tests and documentation
Who you are:
You have, 5+ years of relevant industry experience
You have recent accomplishments working with relational as well as NoSQL data stores, methods, and approaches (logging, columnar, star and snowflake, dimensional modeling)
You have experience with large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects (such as AWS technologies – Redshift, Snowflake, S3, EC2, Data-pipeline and other big data technologies)
You have professional experience working with modern data storage and processing technologies, and you've wrangled enough data to understand the pitfalls of amalgamating data across a variety of systems
You have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively collaborate with technical and business partners
You're passionate and thoughtful about building and scaling a data foundation
Experience working with highly-sensitive data a plus
Experience and interest in working with state-of-the-art data technologies: Spark, Presto, Hadoop or other query engines a plus
Kafka, Logstash, Spark Streaming or other stream processing technologies a plus
Experience with Python or Go, Docker, and SQL required; Typescript a plus
